Moondobang - Korean pottery Master

We are pleased to announce this 3 day masterclass with prolific and highly accomplished master, Korean artist, Moon Byung Sik (@MoonDoBang) . Moondobang is internationally regarded and has exhibited in the United States, England, Japan, France and China. He has received several awards, including the Grand Prize at the Mino International Ceramics Competition in Japan. This is Moondobang's second visit to Australia and we are delighted to welcome him back to our Gerringong studio for this workshop! Moondobang will share his techniques of throwing with porcelain and his methodology of crafting beautiful 10KG porcelain moon jars and altered forms. Over the 3 days, Moondobang will cover cylinder making, bowl making, foot trimming, and moon jar making. Participants will be working with 3 kilos of clay. There is a reasonable expectation that you can centre 3 kilos successfully. This masterclass is not suited to beginners on the pottery wheel. What's included: * demonstrations, information and hands on tuition by visiting Korean artist, Moon Byung Sik * use of pottery tools & equipment * clay to use over the 3 days (additional clay can be purchased if required) * morning/afternoon teas please advise of any dietary requirements Moon started making pots when he was in high school, 22 years ago. When he was learning how to throw on the wheel, he was way behind in the class. Instead of being frustrated, he continued to work and came in every single day, often staying late after all of the classes were over, and threw lots and lots of pots. “With all the effort, I became really good at throwing and no one was better than me in the class,” he recounts. “To be a good thrower, I think diligence is necessary... I was so happy and motivated at that time,” Moon says. He fell in love, and hasn’t stopped working with clay since. He eventually started to make pots to sell. After he graduated from college when he was 26, he decided to start his own business, Moon Do Bang. His thrown works are often mistaken as mold-made work because they are so clean and perfect. He sees that outlines and shapes are richer and more delicate on hand-thrown pottery.
