Soul Clay Studios has been in Gerringong since April 2021. It's a purpose designed pottery studio offering pottery classes for novices to experienced potters alike, The studio also provides the opportunity for resident artists to develop their practice by offering regular studio access and masterclasses.
The studio is owned and operated by husband and wife duo, Zeynep and Marcus Testoni. What began as a hobby in Zeynep's laundry in 2016 as a way to de-stress after work, grew to running pottery classes out of her garage in Gerroa in August 2017. The pandemic of 2020/2021 created the necessity to move out of the garage into a larger warehouse space to provide a safer, physically distanced environment for pottery classes to continue. Soul Clay Studios has created the opportunity for local artists to showcase and sell their handmade ceramics in studio and through exhibitions.
''I think I found my soul clay"
In 2016, when we were still living in Sydney and my studio was the laundry in our apartment, I used porcelain for the first time. I was transported to another realm with its silky, smooth creamy feeling. My husband, Marcus, walked in and I looked up and exclaimed, "I think I've found my soul clay!"
Anyone who has felt the incredible pull of clay and how it can take you away will know exactly what I'm talking about. It was only fitting that I call our teaching studio in Gerringong, 'Soul Clay Studios' a place where you can

The process of working with clay is a mindful, meditative experience. It requires the maker to CENTRE themselves and the clay.
